1980S & 1990S EAST ASIAN CINEMA

FOR COUPLES DRAWN TO THE MOOD OF

1980S & 1990S EAST ASIAN CINEMA

Inspired by everyday life in Taiwan and the mood of 1980s and 1990s East Asian cinema, including the intimacy, rich color, and restless city energy found in Wong Kar-wai’s films, I’m drawn to movement and the small moments that happen in between. A feeling that is a little messy, a little imperfect, but always real.

This experience is about holding onto that feeling, not only how it looked, but how it felt to be there together.

Documenting Everyday Love Across Taiwan Like a Film

From Taipei night markets and old streets to quieter corners beyond the city, each location is chosen to fit your story and the atmosphere you want to create.

The City Becomes Part of the Story

WE SIT ON THE DUSTY SIDEWALKS.

WE SHOOT IN PLACES MOST PEOPLE OVERLOOK.

WE EMBRACE THE MOVEMENTS AND CHAOS OF THE STREET.

WE LET STRANGERS PASS THROUGH THE FRAME.

Everything that’s usually a “no” in a traditional session becomes a “yes” here.

The idea is that the two of you can find peace no matter where you are.

English-speaking Taipei Photographer Francis Cinema

Hi, I’m Francis, a Taiwanese photographer based in Taipei.

Born and raised in Taiwan, I spent several years building my photography career in Los Angeles before finding my way home to Taipei. Inspired by cinema, I’m drawn to the quiet, honest moments in between. I’ll guide you when needed, but mostly I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy being yourselves.

A MECHANICAL FILM CAMERA WITH MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY OF HISTORY

The Taiwan, Like a Film experience is primarily photographed digitally. For couples drawn to the character of film, I also photograph a limited number of frames on a Hasselblad 500C/M.

Its slower, mechanical process creates a small collection of softer, more textured photographs with beautiful imperfections that cannot be repeated in quite the same way.

Film is not necessary to experience my style. It is simply another part of how I approach photography, with patience, intention, and appreciation for the process.

All successful film photographs will be developed, scanned, edited, and included in your final gallery. One roll typically produces around 8 to 12 finished photographs.

Currently available for daytime sessions only.

Optional Hasselblad film coverage from NT$5,000.

FAQ

Do we need to have a full concept before reaching out?

Not at all. You are welcome to come with a clear idea, a loose feeling, or no plan yet. You can also share a Pinterest board, film stills, colors, outfits, or any images that help describe the atmosphere you are drawn to. I’ll use them as inspiration to understand your taste, not as something to copy exactly.

Do we need to know how to pose?

No. I’ll guide you throughout the session while also leaving room for you to move, talk, and be yourselves. The goal is for the photographs to feel cinematic, but still honest and natural.

How many photographs will we receive?

There is no fixed image cap. For a two hour session, your final gallery will include a minimum of 60 edited photographs. Every finished image that contributes to your story will be carefully edited and included in your final curated gallery.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain can sometimes add to the atmosphere, especially for this style of session. If the weather becomes too difficult or unsafe, we can discuss adjusting the timing, location, or rescheduling when possible.
